12th October 2019 - 5th May 2020
On the twenty-fifth anniversary of its opening, the
Groninger Museum inaugurates the exhibition "Mondo Mendini - The World of
Alessandro Mendini", in honor of the designer, Alessandro Mendini.
Conceived by the Italian architect, just before his recent
death, the exhibition is a journey through visual arts, architecture, and
design; a journey to discover over two hundred objects designed by Mendini and
other artists, who were an inspiration to him.
Among the works on display, some pieces signed by Alessandro
Mendini for the BISAZZA Foundation stand out, including the imposing sculptures
- Giacca (Jacket), Scarpa (Shoe), Borsa (Bag), Tazza (Cup) - belonging to the
"Mobili per Uomo" collection, entirely decorated with yellow gold
mosaic tiles, and the two columns in mosaic, the "Monumentini",
conceived as a tribute to Palladio.
Also on display, as a preview, at the Groninger Museum, a
new version of "The Dürer's Knight", an equestrian statue decorated
in mosaic Mendini designed for the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain.
This new, colored version of the knight is added to the two already existing
versions owned, respectively, by the Fondation Cartier and the Bisazza
Foundation.
