Signed by the renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban and recently inaugurated in Biel, Switzerland, the new Headquarters of Swatch is an impressive complex of buildings covering an area of 25,000 square meters, spread over 240 meters long, 35 meters wide and 27 meters high. For its imposing size, it is considered one of the largest wooden structures in the world.
Bisazza participated in the project by covering, with a million and a half of mosaic tiles, an elliptical dome of 700 square meters in the Cité du Temps, an adjacent building that houses the OMEGA Museum and the Planet Swatch, an independent architectural unit that perfectly complements the main edifice. The custom mosaic shading blend was chosen by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect and created exclusively for this project.
The innovative use of construction materials, the rounded shapes, and the large windows convey a feeling of lightness, transparency, and brightness to all spaces, which blends harmoniously into the surrounding environment.
